An Innovative Linking Strategy - April 2010

Today, whilst working on my SEO and link building strategy, I had a pretty good idea.   There must be tens of thousands of websites out there with a similar theme to this one.  For many of those sites there will only be one person doing the arduous work of link building.  Of course I make use of one or two specialist link building websites and 2 of these definitely provide good results.  Having said that, now that my website has risen up to PR3 (and I have another one with PR4), I am finding an increased amount of good sites with good PR approaching me organically. 

Of course I must still sift through junk from webmasters who want me to link to their specialist pet food website! Wouldn't it be great (I thought) if I had 5 or 10 web master buddies doing exactly the same tortuous tasks - sorting out the wheat from the chaff - all producing on avergage just 10 high quality link partners from every 100 they investigate?  What if me and my buddies agreed to pool our 10% of wheat.  The result would be that we all get 10 times more wheat for the same amount of investigative work (assuming there were 10 of us).

Next I must decide if the balance of exchanged Page rank and relevant content is good enough.  Then I must draft a reply to the webmaster to suggest a good linking strategy that is mutually beneficial.  Then I must do all the cut n pasting, uploading and checking.  It is a nightmare.  For one person it can be quite traumatic.  If you are reading this and you are the webmaster of a computer related website (even better one that is closely related to the theme of this one) then please read on and let me know if you are interested in my ideas. 

My proposal is...
To set up a group of webmasters who all own websites with similar theme, rank and quality.  Then to pool our efforts and resources, particularly with regard to link building.  My idea here is still embryonic. 

An example of how this might work is:
There are 5 of us in our group.  Every time we identify a good linking partner we bring the other four members in (perhaps by emailing a BCC - Blind Copy).  Perhaps we could open a blog (or have shared access to an email in-box) where each of us could post our latest link partner details.  This way we could keep a record of who is providing the most links and who is not pulling their weight.  I'm sure this idea could be refined greatly so why not share your own ideas with me?

This means that we all get 5 times more quality link partners - all of them researched, tried and tested by other members of our group.  It is the research, checking and follow up tasks of link exchanging that makes any link strategy cumbersome.  Many web masters try to cut corners by using link farms (heavily frowned upon by Google so don't do it).  Some even purchase links (also despised by Google).  Others start with a strict, tightly-themed linking strategy for their web site but as time goes on they eventually give in to pressure of time and the constant bombardment of link requests from web masters touting sites with unrelated themes.

If my idea was a reality, all this kerfuffle would be a thing of the past.
